Happy Women's Day !!!

Once upon time, there was this lady and her beloved son who lived in a town with other members of the family.  The lady was a proud Mother of 4 children apart from her beloved son.  They all lived together happily and lead a nice life with the father earning for them and taking care of his family. Naturally, with only one member earning for such a big family and the father had a small job, it was constrained family as far as the spending was concerned. Yet they all shared a very strong bond of love and lived very happily.

One day, the son was told in his school to make a chart for bad conductors of electricity and heat.  The teacher had told to collect samples of each of the bad conductors and put them on the chart and write about each of those things.  The boy pulled the old drawer and got a piece of news paper and put it under the head "Paper". Then he opened the old cupboard and got a small piece of rag and called "cloth". Thereafter he went to the backyard and picked a small piece of bark from a tree lying there and called "Wood".  The next was "Plastic".  The boy thought for a while and then remembered that there was a small plastic spoon that he had gotten along with the cough syrup that he had the previous month.  He climbed up the shelves in the kitchen and took the spoon and placed it under "Plastic". The next one was "China / Porcelain".  It took a while for him to figure out what it was and then realized what he should have for that.

He went around, but could not find anything.  So he went to his mother and showed her the chart.  The Mother exclaimed in excitement and appreciated her son's effort and hugged and kissed him.  He asked her, "Mom, there's only one thing left, china / porcelain.  What do I do for it? I don't have anything".  The Mother got the boy out of her lap and took him straight to the rack where they had coffee mugs, which they had bought just a few days ago.  She pulled out her mug from the shelf and went to the backyard with her son.  The boy just followed his mother anxiously waiting what's going to happen next.  She took him next to a wall and hit the mug hard on the wall and broke it into pieces.  Then she bent down and picked up the best of the pieces that were lying down and gave it to him and said "Here you go. Put this up on your chart".  The boy was all smiles and placed the piece of mug under the head "China/Porcelain".

His work was much appreciated in the school and the boy was very happy.  He came home that evening and told his mother about the whole story.  The Mother felt complete and hugged her son and blessed him.

The next day, when everyone was having coffee in their mugs, the Mother was having it in an old stainless steel glass, finding it difficult to hold as there was no handle.  The boy understood that the Mother had broken her mug and so was going through this.  He smiled at her and so did the Mother.

A few years later when the boy grew up into a Man he remembered that day again and realized that it was not possible for the mother to buy a new mug because of the constraints that they had with only the father earning for the entire family. He remembered they used to buy the mugs only once in a year.  If someone broke it in between, it meant that they had to drink in that old steel glass for the rest of the year.  When the mother broke her mug they had just then bought a few days ago, which meant that the mother knew that she had to drink in the steel glass for the entire year, but still she sacrificed her comforts for her son.  He felt really sad for his mother.

The boy (now a Man) went to a shop and bought a nice new mug for his mother.  He gave it to her and told her that he remembered that day when his mother broke her mug for him and how he had realized about what had happened at that time.  The mother was excited to see the mug and appreciated her son's concern.  After listening to the story of what she had done, she said, "Really? Had I done that? You have a very good memory!! I don't even remember I had done that". The boy was in tears .....

The story ends here.... but the sacrifices that mothers do never end. They just go on forever.  We see women playing different roles, but I think the best of it all is when you see her as your "MOTHER".
